Working with the homeowners, we focused on practical improvements that would make the room more comfortable and useful while keeping their budget in mind.

The existing curb was uneven and awkward to finish around. I used a scribed top, shims, and blocking to establish a straight, level casing, then finished it with shiplap and baseboard.

Replacing a butterfly stair tread

A replacement tread, with attention to the joint where debris and moisture had been collecting.

Debris was collecting at the upper joint between the tread bracket and box tube. The trapped moisture was contributing to corrosion at the connection.

Cut out, position, and weld

I cut away the old step, then positioned, leveled, and stick-welded the replacement steel in place.

I thoroughly cleaned the metal, applied zinc primer and metal enamel, and sealed the upper seam to help keep wet debris from collecting against the steel.

The client wanted an inexpensive gate for a tenant's backyard: keep the dog in and add privacy. With room to choose the design, I built a lightweight frame around that brief.

I used glued-and-screwed bridle joints so the interlocking wood geometry helps resist racking without heavy framing. The gate has stayed free of sagging in use.

I spaced and leveled the posts for the long cable run. For the repeat drilling, I made a CNC-machined jig with drill bushings—about 462 holes across 42 posts.
